Tree work along Tallebudgera Creek Road
Tallebudgera is a green valley of creek-side blocks and bush-backed homes, set back from the beach suburbs on the coast. Tallebudgera Creek Road runs through the middle of it. The trees here are tall eucalypts on the slopes, lantana and fast regrowth along fence lines and the leftover remnants of rainforest in the gullies. Most blocks are big enough that the tree you are worried about stands well away from the road and the neighbours.
Getting in is rarely hard on the main road, but the side drives are another matter. Many are long, steep and gravel, with a gate part way along and a turning circle that a truck only just manages. We note where a vehicle can stop, where the cut timber can be pulled to, and whether the tree overhangs a fence. The City of Gold Coast has vegetation rules that can apply, depending on the tree, so it pays to check before you plan a large removal.
The land is semi-rural and lifestyle, with acreage, sheds, dams and horse paddocks, some of it sloped and some flat along the creek flats. People here are often building a house, a shed or a pool, so trees have to be cleared for the pad while others are kept. Summer storms and dry spells both matter. Heavy limbs fall after wind and rain, and long grass and lantana around buildings need cutting back before the dry months.
What we do here most
What Tallebudgera blocks keep needing
On most Tallebudgera blocks the work is tied to a build, a fire season or a storm, and the tree has to be dealt with on sloping ground.

Checking a gum that leans toward the house
A tall gum leaning toward the house is one of the most common worries up here. We look at the base for lifted soil and cracks, the crown for dead wood and the way the lean runs relative to the slope. Then you hear what could be pruned, what has to come down and how the council rules might apply to the tree.
Land Clearing and Fire Breaks
Clearing a building pad and a fire break
A new shed, pool or driveway on a bush-backed block usually means trees and scrub come out first. Machines and chainsaws clear the pad, with the trees you want to keep marked before anything starts. Around the buildings we cut back lantana, fallen timber and undergrowth, and open a break along the fence line to slow a grass fire.
Stump Grinding
Grinding stumps left after a clearing job
After the trees on a pad or driveway line are felled, the stumps are in the way of the builder or the landscaper. The grinder works across each stump to below ground level on the slope, after we check for pipes and cables. The chips are raked into the hole or taken away, and roots are removed if they are in the way of the new work.
Tree Removal
Taking down a tall gum on a sloping block
A big gum above a house or a fence on a slope has to come down in pieces. A climber goes up and ropes each limb so it is lowered rather than dropped, and the trunk is cut from the top down into lengths. The drop zone is cleared first, and the pieces are moved down the slope on the ropes.
If it is urgent
If a limb comes down on your Tallebudgera block
- 1Keep people, kids and animals clear of the fallen limb or tree, and look from a distance, particularly if the ground is wet and sloping.
- 2Do not climb it, do not cut any limb that is bent or under tension, and stay well back from anything touching or near a power line.
- 3When you ring, tell us which road or side drive you are on, which way the block slopes, and what the tree is leaning on, such as the fence, the shed or the roof.
Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Which areas do you cover?
Tweed Heads, the Tweed Coast, Murwillumbah and the Tweed Valley, and the southern Gold Coast as far as Palm Beach and Tallebudgera. Each place has its own page on the service areas page. If yours is not listed, ask, because the list is where we work most often rather than a boundary.
Do you work in Queensland as well as New South Wales?
Yes. The work crosses the border at Tweed Heads and Coolangatta and carries on through Gold Coast suburbs such as Currumbin, Elanora and Bilinga. Which council a tree falls under changes with the side of the border, and that can change what you need to check before a tree comes down.
Which tree jobs do you do?
Trimming, pruning, tree and limb removal, stump grinding, root removal, chipping and mulching, palm tree removal, land clearing and fire breaks, arborist services, commercial tree work, crane-assisted removal and emergency tree work. Each job has its own page on the services page.
Do you do emergency tree work?
Yes. Emergency tree service is one of the jobs on the services page. We are open 24 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, and closed on Sundays. Ring 0458 795 659, say what has come down and what it is lying on, and keep everyone well back until we have spoken.
What is the difference between pruning and lopping?
Pruning takes a branch off at the branch collar, the swelling where it joins the trunk, so the tree can seal the wound. Lopping cuts through a branch anywhere along its length and tends to leave a stub that decays. Pruning is the method for a tree that is staying.
What happens to the branches and the mulch?
Branches and leaves are put through a commercial chipper on site. You can keep the mulch for your garden beds or have it taken away, whichever suits the block.
How far down is a stump ground?
Below ground level, so the spot can go back to lawn, paving or a new planting. Roots are taken out as well when they need to be, and the chips and debris are dealt with as part of the job.
How often do palm trees need cleaning?
Once or twice a year is usual. The job is taking off the dead brown fronds, seed pods and berries that would otherwise land on paths, cars and people.
Do I need council permission to remove a tree?
Often you do, and it varies. Tree preservation rules depend on the council, the zoning, the size of the tree and whether it is a native or protected species. Check with your council before a large or protected tree comes down.
What is crane-assisted tree removal?
A crane takes the weight of each section while a climber makes the cuts, then lifts it clear. It is used for trees that are large, dangerous or too hard to reach any other way, such as ones standing over a house or close to power lines.
What should I tell you when I call?
Where the tree is, roughly how tall it is, what it stands near, such as a roof, fence, pool or wire, and whether it is leaning or has split. A photo taken from a safe distance helps. Say whether a truck can reach the back yard too.
What should I do if a tree or limb is touching a power line?
Stay well back, keep people and pets away, and do not touch the tree or anything it is touching. Treat the line as live and ring 000 if anyone is at risk. Once everyone is clear, ring the number at the top of this page and tell us what is touching what.
